The Atlanta BeltLine is one of the unique things that makes Atlanta, Atlanta. The BeltLine is one of the most comprehensive transportation and economic development effort ever undertaken in the City of Atlanta. It is also among the largest, most wide-ranging urban redevelopment programs currently underway in the United States. The continuous development of the Beltline can make it hard to keep up with. Here are some of the project highlights.
These are the key elements that will be developed over the life of the Atlanta BeltLine Project:
22 miles of pedestrian friendly rail transit
33 miles of multi-use trails
1,300 acres of parks
5,600 units of affordable housing
1,100 acres of brownfields remediated
$10-20 billion in economic development
30,000 permanent jobs
48,000 one-year construction jobs
It will ultimately connect 45 intown neighborhoods via a 22-mile loop of multi-use trails, modern streetcar, and parks – all based on railroad corridors that formerly encircled Atlanta. When completed, it will provide first and last mile connectivity for regional transportation initiatives and put Atlanta on a path to 21st century economic growth and sustainability. The BeltLine is one of the reasons I love Atlanta and I am excited to see all the developments and innovation throughout the next years.
